About the awards

Athens Hip Hop Awards (AHHA) is a tribute to hip hop, urban culture, music, and minority businesses in Athens, Ga. Co-founders, Mokah and Knowa Johnson are always excited to see local content creators, songwriters, and minority businesses get recognition each year. The award show highlights not only the artists and musicians who make up Athens’ hip-hop, r&b, and gospel scene, but also the barbers, stylists, DJ's videographers, minority owned restaurants and more.

For us, by us…

Prior to the Athens Hip Hop Awards, black businesses and content creators had no consistent platform to highlight their products, services nor talents in Athens, Georgia. The award show has been a leading force in not only recognizing and awarding those who the community find deserving but also in documenting minority businesses through the nomination ballot. There were efforts prior to the awards to uplift and formulate a hip hop scene in Athens but the Hip Hop Awards gave life back to a dying scene and ignited a movement.
